A mentor is somebody a few years further along who will read your work, answer the questions you cannot ask your manager, and tell you when an offer is worse than it looks. ClearHire is building that, one match at a time, from people whose employment records companies have actually confirmed.
Small, slow and specific. Three of these are deliberate limits rather than a first version we intend to grow out of.
One at a time
Not a group, not a queue of five people asking the same person the same question. A mentor takes one mentee at a time and can say no to the next one without explaining themselves.
A fixed length
With an obvious way to say yes to another three. An arrangement with no end date is one neither person can leave politely, and that is how most of them actually die.
In writing first
It starts in ClearHire messages, where there is a record and a block button. Swapping numbers or booking a call is a decision the two of you make, not the default the product sets.
Matching will be done by a person reading both registrations, not by a score. There will be no ranking of mentors, no ratings, and no public list of who mentored whom — a mentee should be able to ask an embarrassing question without it becoming part of anyone's record.
Two lists, and you can be on both. Nothing is published, nobody is contacted on your behalf, and you can take yourself off in one click.

The register is tied to an account, because a match needs somebody to reach. Everything above is readable without one.
Sign inRegistrations are read by a person, in the order they arrive. There is no number on this page telling you how many are ahead of you, because we would rather not turn a queue into a scoreboard.
All of it, in advance, including the parts that are inconvenient.
Asked for
Never asked for
Either side can end an arrangement at any point, without a reason, and nothing about it appears on either person's profile. A mentor who stops replying is quietly taken off the list rather than chased.
Most of what people want a mentor for is one of three things, and all three work now.
Ask the question
A specific question, answered by people who have been through it. Slower than a mentor and considerably faster than waiting for one — and a reply marked as the answer stays there for the next person with the same problem.
Read the forumsAsk someone who knows you
The people you actually worked with, and what they are willing to say about it. An endorsement from a colleague who countersigned your record carries more than a stranger's advice, and asking for one is not an imposition.
Your networkPractise the hard part
A question bank, a mock run you can do alone at eleven at night, and a scorecard for afterwards. This is the part people most want a mentor for, and it is the part you can rehearse without one.
Interview toolsNo. Mentors are not paid and mentees are not charged, and there is no plan that buys a mentor. Paying for the match would change who volunteers and who gets one, and that is not a trade worth making.
ClearHire has paid plans and this is not one of the things they are for. What the plans do include
No. Registering interest is private. Your current employer is never told, it does not appear on your public profile, and a company that has confirmed a role for you cannot see it either.
The one thing a matched mentor eventually sees is what you wrote in the form above, and only after you have both agreed to the match. What we store
